 For performing Hajj and Umrah, first of all one must do intention (Niyah) and must devote oneself to Allah with the intention that one’s Hajj or Umrah is only for the happiness and there is no worldly purpose involved in it.

After doing intention (Niyah) one must wear ‘Ihram’ (special clothes for Hajj or Umrah). It is sunnah to Bath (do Ghusl) for men and women before wearing clothes for 'Ihram' including menstruating women. It is also Sunnah to perfume on head and beard.

After wearing ‘Ihram” one must say Talbiyah as now he or she is on her scared way to perform her important obligation of life. During Hajj and Umrah one should say talbiyah from wearing his Ihram to the time one reaches at Jamraat to stone devil ‘Shaitaan’ over there.

One of the most important parts of Hajj and Umrah is to do ‘Tawaaf’ of Kaaba. When a pilgrim ‘Haji’ has to enter into Holy mosque, he has to step his right foot to enter into tha mosque. A pilgrim has to do Tawaaf of Kaabah by keeping on his left (means he must go in the anti-clockwise direction). A pilgrim must start his Tawaaf from Ar-Rukn-Al-Yamani and when he reaches the Hajr-e-Aswad (Black Stone) then he should kiss it, if possible, and if not possible then he can simply face towards Black Stone and point towards it.

Each time a pilgrim passes through Black Stone, he must say “Allah-u-Akbar”, Allah is the Greatest.

After doing Tawaf, next step is to do Sa’i between Safaa and Marwaa.

During sa’i, pilgrims can do recite supplications which ever they want or they can do recitation of Quran.

One has to do Sa’i in seven laps between Safaa and Marwaa.

On the completion of seven laps between Safaa and Marwaa. It is time to shave head for women whereas women have to simply cut their hair up to 1 inch. Men can also clip their hair but shaving of head is more preferable.

With this Umrah is completed and now Hajis can wear off their Umrah clothes, wear perfume and ca have sexual relations with their wives.
